It is not possible to be entirely prepared to create new systems where none exist, but it is possible to gather the arguments to support what is decided upon, just as it is possible to be equipped to defend what is created, and later develop the strength to withstand constructive criticism, and the clarity for reflection. It is possible to analyze with precision the composition of materials, just as it is possible to preserve them over time by processing them into new matter. It is indeed possible to predict the arrival of rain, just as it is conceivable to propose a significant change: shifting from an industry that utilizes only 15% of raw materials to one where the rest is no longer discarded.

This was the year of possibilities, of conclusions, of verifications, analyses, urgencies, of harvesting past efforts and sowing with intention. It was a year of demonstrations, assistance campaigns, stepping out of the comfortable shadow and into the light—with all that entails: being completely exposed. A year of revisiting past experiences, reliving their intensity, and in the calm that follows, drawing up new projects. This year, we ventured into a field that feels as vast and unfamiliar as the ocean, presenting new challenges: education.

A year of measuring the impact of what we have done, what we do, and what we will do—of defining those indicators that will allow us to continually evaluate ourselves. This year, 1.5 hectares of land at 3,600 meters above sea level proved to be highly productive, thanks to a significant investment of ingenuity, sustained effort, comprehensive planning, and unwavering dedication. In 2024, new individuals are joining an interdisciplinary team that continues to integrate efforts to create those once-inexistent systems—systems for procurement, material utilization, species identification, registration and cataloging, design, and art. Systems for seeing. The methodology is applicable even in places once considered distant. Tokyo is a Mater stage and exemplifies the possibility of applying "the Mater approach" elsewhere in the world.

This year is also significant because, as part of an organization where gastronomy is the central axis, we have decided that it will expand into new and diverse formats—always returning to direct contact, to the authenticity of its foundations. Our plan to make everything traceable and to gain certainty about real contexts at all levels of the territory is strengthened by the clear intent to co-design with those involved, crafting more ambitious and inclusive plans, more ways to immerse ourselves in unique natural landscapes. The Andes, the Amazon, coastal systems, marine environments—so close that distance becomes imperceptible, yet each retains its unmistakable singularity.

Perhaps we are a community larger than the individuals who comprise it, perhaps we are vulnerable before the seemingly infinite number of tasks ahead. But in knowing ourselves as a perfectly irregular mass with our soul intact, we are more ready than ever to take on a 2025 filled with both the tangible and the intangible yet to come.
